From the bride: Garrett and I met at Westminster College in Central Missouri at a fraternity party. Obviously a very romantic location. After about three years of dating, we went to spend Christmas with his parents in Arizona and he wanted to go hiking. The first morning we were there, we went out to hike and at the top of the mountain he proposed!
The wedding planning was a little chaotic. We were living in Missouri at the time but were planning on moving to Flagstaff, AZ within in a few months. Knowing this, we wanted to have the wedding in Arizona and we decided on a destination wedding in Sedona. My parents live in Kansas City and were helping plan, so for the first 6 months of our engagement we were planning an Arizona wedding from the Midwest.
I really wanted to embrace the location and incorporated succulents into all aspects of the wedding. Our colors were teal, mint and purple. We had succulent bouquets, the cake had a sugar succulent on it and we even had them on our invitations. As a personal touch, we used pictures of us showing off our lives in Flagstaff as the table numbers. For example, we had pictures of us at our favorite coffee shop, out disc golfing, and in front of the high school where we both coach.
Because it was a destination wedding, we had people in town from Thursday to Sunday. It definitely made it that much more of a party. We started the weekend off with a New Year’s party on Thursday and didn’t stop until we all left on Sunday. My family lives all over the country so it was amazing to see so many of them there and be able to spend a long weekend celebrating with them.
